If Only I Could Get Some TRAXON!
The Rise Of The AUTO!
The ZF TraXon is a highly advanced and efficient modular automatic transmission system that is designed for use in DAF trucks. This gearbox was introduced in 2017 (MY17) and with the introduction of NGD is the only gearbox available.....good bye manual!
It offers a wide range of options and configurations to meet the specific needs of the haulier such as 12 and 16 speed variants with overdrive available as is a wider gear set in the 12 speed for higher toque transmission
The TraXon gearbox also has software that enables precise control over the transmission, including gear shifting, torque distribution, and energy management. This advanced software means the ecu is able to calculate vehicle mass very effectively which consists of inputs of engine speed, torque and vehicle acceleration to ensure the correct drive off gear is selected every time, which allows for even more efficient operation resulting in improved fuel economy and reduced emissions.
The TraXon transmission system also features a high maximum torque rating of up to 1,500 Nm, making it able to handle even the most demanding driving conditions with ease. This makes it an ideal choice for use in both mx-11 and mx-13 engines
The TraXon transmission system also offers the option for a fully automatic mode or a manual mode, giving the driver the flexibility to choose the best mode for their specific driving conditions. Additionally, it also offers the option for a start-stop system, which can further improve fuel economy and reduce emissions.
some of the systems that improve driver comfort and improve fuel economy are:
Eco Mode
this function was introduced in 2015, it reduces fuel consumption by introducing a different shift strategy where torque, acceleration and speed are optimised for fuel economy. this of course can be inhibited for a short period of time via the right hand stork button.
Eco Roll
another system fitted is EcoRoll, this software shifts the gearbox into neutral when the vehicle is on an incline which allows the vehicle mass to maintain sustained vehicle speed.
Predictive Cruise Control
With technology now utilising GPS it can be used with cruise control to deliver enhanced fuel economy. PCC takes advantage of topographical GPS data to improve cruising speed efficiency. When the vehicle enters particular types of terrain, such as rolling hills, the system regulates the cruising speed to improve performance. For example, as the truck ascends and descends a slope, Dafs Predictive Cruise Control will allow the vehicle speed to decrease slightly below the specified cruise speed. This improves fuel economy since the truck now uses momentum rather than fuel to maintain the predetermined cruise speed.
not only does ZF offer the standard software hauliers can opt for more load specific software such as:
- liquid transport
- refuse collection
- off road software (stop&go)
Overall, the ZF TraXon is a highly advanced and efficient modular automatic transmission system that offers DAF trucks exceptional performance, fuel efficiency, and reduced emissions. Its modular design and advanced software make it a versatile and reliable choice for a wide range different haulage applications for Daf.
